The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has experienced another significant leadership change with the resignation of co-executive director Hsiao-Wei Wang, effective immediately. Wang announced her decision in a post on X on Thursday, citing a recent sabbatical that allowed her to reflect on her priorities and future plans.
“I’ve come to feel that this is the right moment for me to step back,” Wang expressed in her statement. Her departure follows that of fellow co-executive director Tomasz Stańczak, who had previously announced his intention to leave the organization after facilitating a leadership transition at the Switzerland-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting Ethereum’s ecosystem development.
During Wang’s sabbatical, Ethereum Foundation board member Bastian Aue stepped in to oversee the transition and has taken on a larger role in guiding the organization in the wake of both co-executive directors’ exits.
This change comes amid a period of turmoil at the Ethereum Foundation, with at least eight senior figures having departed in the past five months. This has led to increased scrutiny from the community regarding the EF’s priorities, governance, and strategic direction, especially as Ethereum grapples with rising competition from other blockchain platforms.
In her statement, Wang reflected on the larger mission of Ethereum and acknowledged the many contributors who have played a role in building the network. “Ethereum has always been bigger than any one role, any one organization, or any one moment,” she noted.
